How to record and tune vocals in your browser

To record vocals in your browser: open the Tracks studio, add an audio track, arm it and allow your microphone, then record over your beat using the count-in. Capture a few takes, comp the best phrases together, set your song's key, and apply the built-in autotune to lock the pitch — all free, with nothing to install.

1. Set up your microphone

Add an audio track and arm it. The first time you record, the browser asks for microphone permission — allow it. In Settings you can choose raw input or browser voice-processing (echo cancellation and noise suppression); for singing, raw input usually sounds more natural, while voice-processing helps on a noisy laptop mic. Use headphones so the backing track doesn't bleed into your recording.

2. Record a take with a count-in

Turn on the count-in (one or two bars) so you have time to come in on beat. Press record, wait for the clicks, and sing. Watch the meter — aim for a healthy level that never hits the very top, which would clip and distort.

3. Comp the best parts together

Great vocals are usually built from several takes. Record over the same section a few times; each new pass stacks as a take on the same clip. Then use the take selector and comp lanes to choose the best phrase from each pass, swiping across the clip to assemble one strong performance.

4. Tune to key with autotune

Set your project key in the transport bar (for example, A minor). Open the vocal clip and apply autotune: it tracks the pitch and snaps it to the notes of your key. Use a slower retune speed and lower amount for natural correction, or a fast, full setting for the hard, modern "tuned" effect. Tracks uses a phase-continuous pitch shifter, so the tuned vocal stays smooth instead of robotic-sounding at the edges.

5. Mix the vocal in

On the vocal track, add a high-pass EQ to remove low rumble, a gentle compressor to even out the level, and a de-esser if the "s" sounds are harsh. Send a little to the reverb bus for space. Balance it so the vocal sits on top of the music without burying it.

6. Export

When it's right, export the full song to WAV or MP3, or bounce stems if you want to finish elsewhere. Nothing is uploaded — the file saves straight to your device.
